The First Lexus Urban Hatchback Electric Car, What Would It Call?
Lexus will make a long-awaited transition towards fully electric propulsion with a small urban hatchback. With a vision of the future that will be revealed in concept form during the next Tokyo Motor Show 2019. The fully electric concept of Lexus still has no name but will have the shape of a tall, square and city-friendly hatchback. Use a more futuristic design than any model in the 2019 range.
The inspiration is expected to have been taken from the concept of the 2015 Lexus LF-SA, although updated with more production intent. Koji Dato, vice president of Lexus, said that “we feel that our future might resemble this design.”
The first Lexus electric car will equip next-level information and entertainment technology. That will be displayed on a pair of screens located on each side of the steering wheel that will mark the character of the passenger compartment. Although the technical details and the production date of Lexus’ mysterious electric concept remain secret, Sato has recognized the need to create a product that is competitive and compelling.
The firm is investing a significant amount of money in the development of powertrain technology. It needs to fulfill its promise to offer an electrified variant of each car in its range in 2015.
What will the first Lexus electric car be called?
The brand’s engineers are designing a platform to develop electric cars. It will probably be shared with Toyota, the parent company of Lexus. The two brands plan to launch ten fully electric models by 2025 jointly. Lexus is also putting a great focus of research on electric motors equipped on wheels. Sato has admitted that it will take years to make such technology a reality.
“We hope that the four wheels that operate independently offer greater agility, stability, and emotion.” “We will continue to look for this exciting opportunity.” Meanwhile, Lexus design chief Koichi Suga is defining the design of an electric production Lexus. The final design has not yet been signed by Toyota President Akio Toyoda but has admitted that the axle grille will not disappear completely.”Refrigeration has yet to happen,” Suga said. “The axle grill is also a representation of the personality, and it is the face of the car, so it is really a necessary part of the brand’s identity. But because it is electric, customers will also expect something futuristic, something not so traditional.” The concept bound for Tokyo will hint at the direction you want to take.
Lexus also plans other alternatives to the gasoline engine, including plug-in hybrids and hydrogen fuel cells. Sato praised the company’s experience in hybrid technology as a great advantage. “Hybrid technology is our core. Our experience in electrical control technology, and battery technology can be used for other types of alternative power trains, including fuel cells.
However, the widespread availability of a Lexus that runs on fuel cells is strongly linked to infrastructure growth. Sato emphasized that Lexus cannot solve that problem alone, but that his team “never gives up on this technology.” Sato also said Lexus needs an entry-level car to attract buyers who go from non-luxury brands to showrooms. The Lexus CT, abandoned in the US UU. But still sale in Europe, it is said that the brand is weighing the sales of the new UX crossover to see when or if a new version is needed.
At the opposite end of the spectrum, Sato emphasized that Lexus is currently not planning a limited edition Lexus LFA follow-up, with V10 technology, launched in 2010. “I love it, but we need your help. We need strong requests for a new media LFA. This can help us proceed,” concluded Sato.
